- For the first time in my life, I have my own home.
- The mobile home park it makes moving into a home achievable for us.
- Natasha: Across America, mobile homes provide much needed, affordable housing.
- Mobile home is is not a second class house.
A mobile home is my home.
- Natasha: But there's a catch.
- It's about who owns the land.
Most mobile home park residents own their homes but not the land they live on.
They have to pay rent for that.
And in most states, park owners can raise those rents almost anytime they want to buy as much as they want to.
(renter speaks in Spanish) - Natasha: Landowners who wanna sell to developers are raising rents and forcing out the mobile homes but the homeowners are fighting back.
- I found a letter taped to my door that said that Golf U had been purchased.
(group chants in Spanish) - [Crowd] Fight, fight, fight, housing is a human right!
- I would like to ask everyone present to stand if the following applies to you.
If you are someone currently seeking stable, affordable housing, if you are in favor, of taking bigger and bolder steps to prevent displacement and provide dignified and affordable housing for those who need it.
- Natasha: Who will win, the landowners or the mobile homeowners?
- I think mobile home parks are an important part of the answer to the affordable housing crisis.
- Not if the land belongs to us.
- We are not just dollar signs on a lot number.
We are real community, real people, and we're fighting this.
- We are taking the reins and we're taking that power for people.
