Crane Hunters of Pakistan

Special | 28m 23s

In Pakistan during the 1980s conservationists work to reduce the threat to cranes caused by hunting.

In the rural villages of Pakistan, the tradition of capturing cranes had long been woven into local customs and culture. By the mid-1980s, however, the practice had raised fears of extinction. Conservation efforts at the time focused on educating hunters, enforcing wildlife protection laws, and launching initiatives such as banding migrating cranes to track their movements.
