Hi internet.
Not a whole lot of behind the scenes for this week's movie “The Bells of Saint Mary's” because, well, it came out in 1945 and the stories behind the scenes tend to fade away.
But I will tell you a cold, hard fact.
The Bells of Saint Mary's was the highest grossing movie of all time for RKO pictures.
So, uh, cha-ching!
Equally impressive because of that money making.
I only found out that The Bells of Saint Mary's is actually a sequel to a movie that came out just a year prior called “Going My Way”, which is essentially the same premise.
Bing Crosby is an unorthodox priest who fixes a struggling church.
It was a success, but I think what made the sequel explode was the addition of the dynamite that is Ingrid Bergman.
One funny, behind the scenes moment I have is that the production of the movie was overseen by a real Catholic priest.
In the final farewell scene with Bergman and Crosby, they asked for one more take from the director and he permitted.
They then said their goodbyes and just started passionately kissing just to prank the priest and apparently he flipped out.
Very funny.
One last thing.
A lot of the scenes in this movie look like the scene in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, when he's riding his bike through all the studio soundstages, and then he tries to blend into a movie that's using his bike as a prop.
I can't be certain, but it very much looks and feels like The Bells of St.
Mary's.
I'm sure all The Bells of St.
Mary's fans are now totally going to go watch Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.
Thanks for watching.
