[ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] >> Good evening, good evening, good evening!
Welcome to the UW Varsity Band Spring Concert.
Can you believe that this is the 48th iteration of this event?
Nearly 50 years.
We're really grateful that you've chosen to be here with us this evening.
And tonight, it's all about joy.
Join us in the revelry.
Sing, dance until your heart is content.
We're going to kick things off with the Queen of Rock and Roll, Tina Turner.
This is "Proud Mary" and "River Deep - Mountain High".
[ Cheers & Applause ] [ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] [ Music ] >> Thank you, thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
This next tune comes from the great Steven Wonder.
It's called "Don't You Worry About a Thing".
And it's going to be conducted by our professor of drum set and percussion coordinator, my dear, dear, dear friend.
One of the funniest people I know, and funnest people I know.
This is Dr. Matthew Endres.
"Don't You Worry About a Thing".
[ Inaudible ] [ Music ] Dr. Matthew Endres [ Cheers & Applause ] >> Jack Zangl, everybody!
Jack Zangl!
[ Cheers & Applause ] Dr. Matthew Endres.
Before we play this next number, I must say a few words about the person that's going to be conducting this next number.
He is Dr. Alexander Gonzalez -- [ Cheers & Applause ] -- our Assistant Band Director.
This is going to be his last performance with us as Assistant Director of the UW Marching Band.
And I want you all to know what a blessing he has been for our organization, and what a blessing he has been to me personally.
He's an excellent musician, he's an excellent teacher, but beyond that, he is a wonderful, wonderful human being, and we are going to miss him dearly.
We wish him all the best.
And we're going to resist the urge to try not to sabotage things so that he won't leave.
So, we'll play nice for the next few weeks.
He's going to lead the group in "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous".
Dr. Alexander Gonzalez.
[ Cheers & Applause ] >> Dr. Alexander Gonzalez.
[ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] >> Dr. Alexander Gonzalez.
Thank you, thank you for all you've done for us.
This next set of tunes features music from some of our top Latin artists.
It was Shakira who said, "The hips don't lie."
And they don't.
So if you don't move, that might be an indictment on us.
We call this, "Hispanic Hits."
[ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] Thank You, thank you, thank you, thank you!
[ Music ] >> T, H, E, H, O, R, S, E. [ Music ] Thank you, thank you, thank you!
That was, of course, "The Horse".
Our beloved drumline is about to perform.
They play with such energy, and they're really fun to watch.
Dr. Matthew Endres, that you saw previously, coordinates the line, and this particular feature was arranged and choreographed by our teaching assistant, Joshua Graham.
Please give it up.
Give it up!
Give it up!
The UW drumline!
[ Cheers & Applause ] [ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] [ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] [ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] >> Give it up for the Badger Band drumline!
[ Cheers & Applause ] It's that time.
What this ensemble is known for, not just here in town, but everywhere -- it's the fifth quarter!
Let's get up off those seats and have at it.
Yes!
[ Music ] Now that you've got the hang of it, we'll call that "practice".
Let's do it again.
One, two, one, two, ready, and... [ Music ] Well, I would say we would stop there, but we're not.
Faster!
One, two, one, two [inaudible].
[ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] Here we go!
One, two, one, two, [inaudible].
[ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] You know this one, too?
Let's sing again.
One, two, one, two, three!
[ Music ] "Hey, Baby" everybody, sing along!
[ Music ] [ Inaudible ] [ Singing ] Sing it!
Let's sing!
Let's sing!
[ Singing ] [ Cheers & Applause ] That was some beautiful singing.
Beautiful singing!
[ Cheers & Applause ] When you say "Wisconsin," you've said it all.
One, two, three!
[ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] Thank you, thank you!
Thank you for joining us.
That's, by far, one of our favorite things to do.
Always a good time.
Well, I talked about how the students choose the repertoire.
And this particular tune, they've been requesting for a while, and as they say, they finally decided to do it.
At that time, little did I know that this person would be responsible for viewership in the NFL going up.
Travis Kelce would become a household name.
And as fate would have it, she dropped an album today!
[ Cheers & Applause ] A double album today!
Well, I haven't listened to it yet, so I can't wait to get to it.
So you know who this is, right?
Who is this?
Taylor, Taylor Swift!
So for all you Swifties out there, this is for you.
This is "Taylor's Version."
[ Cheers & Applause ] [ Music ] [ Cheers & Applause ] Thank you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
And now, we'll close tonight's program with our signature Badger Band finale.
Please help us to celebrate the University of Wisconsin and this great band.
If you know the songs, we encourage you to sing along.
Sing loud and proud.
It's a great band tradition that we have here.
It's a great institution, and we're all so proud and grateful to be here, all in support of the University of Wisconsin.
This is the Badger Band finale.
[ Cheers & Applause ] [ Music ] Once again, the University of Wisconsin Varsity Band!
Thank you for coming tonight.
Hope you had a great time!
Look forward to seeing you next year!
And as always, we never say goodbye, but simply, we'll see you real soon!
And "On, Wisconsin!"
