So what I'd like to do is open it up... And we're going to tilt it a bit... Now, it looks like to me what we have in here are the Dionne quintuplets.
Am I right there?
GUEST 1: That's right.
Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: Can you tell me a little bit?
It sounds like you had some, uh, fun childhood play with this?
GUEST 1: Oh, yes.
I got these, um... I think around 1940.
APPRAISER: Mm-hmm.
GUEST 1: I-I must've been about eight.
APPRAISER: Mm-hmm.
GUEST 1: And I really enjoyed playing with them for-- APPRAISER: Well, it doesn't seem like you played with them too often, because I notice here that they all have their original clothing on.
GUEST 1: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: And every doll has its original button, which is extremely rare.
Of course, everybody is familiar with the Dionne quintuplets.
Um, these dolls were actually made after 1935, and they all have their little original name tags.
What I also noticed, as you pointed out to me be-- earlier, is that underneath here... ...there's some additional little surprises.
GUEST 1: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: Can you tell me about these?
What is, what is this little, uh, object right here?
GUEST 1: Well, that's the little party dress that they came in.
APPRAISER: Uh-huh.
GUEST 1: And also under there, under the pillow, is the, uh, little slip that goes under the dress.
Their name tag under.
APPRAISER: Well, I have to say, you were obviously very meticulous, um, as a child.
You must've not had any, uh, brothers and sisters, is that right?
GUEST 1: That's right.
I, I... didn't have to share.
APPRAISER: You didn't have to share.
Well... GUEST 1: Being an only child.
APPRAISER: ...you're actually very fortunate, because, most of these type of dolls, at least what I've seen, have been very incomplete.
They usually don't have the name tags.
The clothing has been torn.
And I also noticed this looks like it's the original box, uh, or basket.
GUEST 1: Yes, it-- yes.
APPRAISER: So you received it like this as a, as a child?
GUEST 1: Yes, it was a Christmas present from my aunt and uncle.
APPRAISER: Aw.
Well, it certainly is really quite lovely.
They were made by Madame Alexander... GUEST 1: Right, mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: ...which you're probably familiar with, who is still making dolls today.
And as I say, these were made after 1935.
So, 1940 would make sense.
Um, as a value on these, because they're so complete and because you have the original box and all the accessories, um, I would say it's going to be worth probably at auction, about $1,500 to $2,000.
GUEST 1: (laughing) Wow.
APPRAISER: Wow.
GUEST 2: (chuckles) APPRAISER: Does that surprise you, a little bit?
GUEST 2: Yes.
GUEST 1: Sure does.
APPRAISER: Yeah, well, that's what they're worth.
GUEST 1: This is a... APPRAISER: And, um, I think you should go home now and take care of them.
(laughs) Just as you've continued to do all these years.
